Friday Photo #14 Too Much (LAST FRIDAY PHOTO!!!)

For our final friday photo, our inspiration was 'too much'. Though this photo would've fit really well if someone was surrounded by textbooks, considering the time of year, I liked this better:) Short version, a night out with friends ended up at kids only market where it turns out, if you pick the right game you can yield an incredible amount of tickets! I felt the look on my 'models' face perfectly represented what goes hand in hand with 'too much' -being overwhelmed. In this case it happened to be an overwhelming amount of tickets, like 980something, meriting the accidental expression of shock and quality of flabbergastedness. In editing (since I took the photo with my ipod so it wasn't the best quality), I turned the highlights and sharpness up, and mixed with the grainy quality I thought it had a nostalgic sort of 80's/90's TV show thing happening. The bright lighting adds to an authentic effect adding visual interest without taking away from the main subject.
Friday Photo #13 Disappointed

For this weeks Friday Photo, we were to use disappointment as our inspiration. This Photo is very subtly disappointed. First you have to look closely at the gorgeous dresses. Drink that in. Then if you look to the left of the photo you can see my reflection looking mildly downhearted because, well, I'm not wearing those gorgeous dresses! I thought this was an interesting photograph because it was unconventional, and I really liked the fact it was a reflection. It turned out to be an interesting photo that aptly demonstrated disappointment.
Friday Photo #12 Makes My Heart Sing
This Weeks Friday Photo Subject was something that makes your heart sing and this photo had sort of a magic too it. I took this picture in the Roman Forum which is an unbelievable place because not only does this picture make ones heart sing, but everything you see there is incredible! To think an entire civilization inhabited there, and the legacy they leave behind includes these beautiful structures that survive throughout the ages, is fantastic!! This structure, The Arch of Septimus Serverus is a column of pillars that happened to be blocking the sun which resulted in the sky appearing a deep rich blue, which made for a beautiful silver toned lighting. There is a strong diagonal line created by the Arch, which makes it more of an interesting photograph. This Photo "makes my heart sing" because of the colouring, the location and the sky.
Friday Photo #11 Waiting
This weeks subject was waiting, which sort of threw me for a loop, because waiting was just the inspiration behind it. Then I stumbled across this picture which was perfect. Long story short, this is my cousin in a "wedding dress" and her expression perfectly denoted waiting, perhaps for her groom? Her expression isn't disappointed, just far away, dreamy, and expectant. She's waiting. The lighting in this picture is perfect. Because I photographed her against the sun, the light swirls out from behind her head and encircles all the edges giving the photo an airy light, and because it's not in perfect focus, the photo has a haze to it which adds to the feel of expectance, sort of waiting to break that haze.
Friday Photo #10 Signs of the Season
For this weeks friday photo, our inspiration was, Signs of the Season. What better to represent the winter months than a piping hot mug of Starbucks coffee? I wanted the colours in this photo to be really rich and warm to meld with the coffee. The chair behind was a beautiful cherry oak(I think) and the mural was all soft colours as well. There was a neon sign across the street that bubbles into the photo and adds an interesting contrast. I turned down the exposure on the camera and used vivid colouring to saturate and contrast adding to a cozy feel and a sign of the season.
Friday Photo #9 Outdoor Beauty
This weeks subject was outdoor beauty. Though there is no shortage of gorgeous tree or flower scapes to be shot, but an unconventional shot of bulls seemed perfect. I really like this picture because of all the elements that happened to come together and meld really well. The fence adds diagonal lines to the photo and the bulls position adds an element of internal framing. The backdrop of the vividly green trees and the bright lighting add a surreal feel. I slightly increased the exposure, and cranked up the saturation to make it authenticish; sort of like a snapshot into someones childhood memories. Is there anything more beautiful than bulls grazing?:)
Friday Photo #8 Comfort Food
By:Me
This weeks subject was comfort food. This picture is of an amazing cake a B&B owner made for our breakfast! It was absolutely delicious and, well, comforting. The tip of the cake doesn't quite touch the edge of the frame which creates visual tension and the lens focuses in on the coconut and crumb of the cake which really drives home the perfection of chocolate coconut cake, which equals comfort food. The lighting for this picture was beautiful. It was outside in the early morning and slightly overcast, which gave the photo very soft lighting, and allowed all the individual colours to pop.
Friday Photo #7 Tell A Story With Your Title
![]() |
The Evolution of a Sandwiches' Demise |
Just kidding! Titles have never been my strong point, but this one was a given as soon as I took the picture. I removed the highlights in Iphoto so that the clouds would compete the with sandwich and increased the saturation to give the photo a more surreal feel and some warmth. Though it isn't the most flattering photo, I think it definitely tells a story.
Friday Photo #6 A Glimpse
By:Me
For this weeks Friday Photo I took this picture at a restaurant trying just to capture the solitary glass of wine, but it ended up as a fantastic shot for "a glimpse." I like that the foreground is just a static object, that is the main focus, but by glimpsing through the wine glass, you see all this action happening in the background, allowing you to glimpse into someone else's world, having captured it without their knowledge.
Friday Photo #5 Opposites
This Weeks' inspiration was opposites, so what better than a fork and a knife?:) I chose this picture because it had a double meaning of the word opposite. On the one hand, the photo shows a fork and a knife which are opposites in the cutlery world, but the way I arranged them was perpendicular, which was opposite to one another. The knife reflects the fork which adds visual interest and the textures in this photo are strong, especially in contrasting one another, which again denotes the feeling of opposites.
Friday Photo #4 Spilled
This weeks Friday Photo subject was, spilled. The dictionary defines spilled as: To cause or allow to run or fall from a container. So, since the words are just prompters, instead of doing a bottle of water spilling over in a more traditional sense of the word, I opted for a fountain. The angle of this shot, focuses mainly on the water spilling down over the top of the pot, and out of the mens mouths. The upward angle I shot the photo with brings in the sun to beam onto the descending water, adding to the overall impression of water spilling. I cropped this picture to take out the base of the fountain, so just the border was seen, dragging the eye down in the motion of the falling water, or water being spilled.
Friday Photo #3 Creepy
| By: Me |
The sheer terror i've felt taking this picture, looking at this picture and uploading this picture definitley qualifies it as: creepy. As mentioned, this week's Friday Photo subject was, creepy. To get this image, I angled the camera to give the flowers an open and inviting feel, contrary to it's inhabitant .The spider is not completely in focus, giving the impression that the photo was of the flower and the spider just happened to show up and overtake the daisy. The background is blurred to keep the focus on the main subject, and the two petals being lifted by its web add visual interest, almost acting as fingers extending a hand, to lure you into the spiders conniving web. I used colour swap on my cannon power shot SD1400 (small but mighty), to replace the natural yellow centre, with a bold blue, adding a surreal feel. Plus the vibrant blue pairs nicely with the strange colouring of our arachnid friend. I think the contrasting images, and stigmas in the picture leave the impression of, creepy.
Friday Photo #2 Faces

I chose this picture because it made me hear music when I saw it.( Specifically creature fear by Bon Iver, which is a fantastic song, but this is about the photo... so I digress.) This picture is amazing because it epitomizes the point of photography, at least to me. For a picture to move you, to touch you, to mean something important to you, all before you stop to evaluate why its a good photograph. I love the silver tones the black and white reflect, and how it creates a uniformity; so all the elements of the picture blend together while still contrasting one another through the different tones, textures and lines. The photo manages to frame the ambiguous nature of nature, making it a memorable photograph.
